Abstract

Hunting constitutes a historically rooted practice in the Northeastern Caatinga, playing a central role in subsistence, local culture, and the transmission of knowledge about fauna. This study aimed to analyze, through a literature review, the sociodemographic profile of hunters and the division of labor in hunting activities, with emphasis on gender relations. The research was based on a qualitative and exploratory review of 23 scientific articles published between 2007 and 2025. The results indicate that hunting is predominantly practiced by low-income individuals, linked to agricultural and informal activities, with low levels of schooling, and is characterized as an intergenerational practice sustained by oral transmission of knowledge. A male predominance is observed in capture activities, associated with sociocultural factors and traditional gender roles. However, women play relevant roles in processing, medicinal use, and commercialization of fauna, standing out in zooterapeutic knowledge. It is concluded that understanding this diversity is essential to support sustainable management strategies and public policies aimed at conserving the Caatinga biome.
