Abstract

This article contains the results of a research conducted during 2014 and 2015 in which we analyze the current situation of women engaged in the Ecuadorian professional sports’ journalism activities. Through individual and group interviews, we set both men and women who work in this area out to understand trajectories and the current working conditions of women in this field. Our purpose of the research was to comprehend how different factors affect the development of women’s equality in sports’ journalism. Moreover, as a result of historical changes, which include the existence male chauvinism conceptions and discrimination, still contribute to gender inequality in society. Among the main findings, we highlight the history of the family sports life, peer supports and opportunities of professional practice, professional demands differentiated by gender and risks of workplace harassment
